At LDE UTC we plan the study programme carefully with each learner to ensure that they are tailored to their needs but they typically include the following:
Substantial qualifications that stretch students and prepare them for education at the next level or for employment.
Our offer includes a wide range of A Levels, Level 3 T Levels and other technical courses and Level 2 T Level transition courses. The programme for each learner will be informed by their prior attainment, interests and career ambitions. All learners are enrolled on a full time course which is typically 3 A Levels or the equivalent.
English and mathematics GCSE where students have not yet achieved a GCSE grade 4.
Achieving a grade 4 or higher in English and Maths GCSE is important for several reasons. Many apprenticeships and job opportunities require at least a grade 4 in these subjects, as they are essential for workplace skills. Universities also typically require a minimum of a grade 4 or 5 in English and Maths, even for courses unrelated to these subjects. Beyond education and employment, strong English and Maths skills are essential for everyday life, helping with communication, budgeting, and problem-solving. At LDE UT6 we therefore enable learners to retake these alongside our Level 2 transition course and also offer retake opportunities for those requiring a 6 in mathematics for thier chosen courses.
Work experience to give students the opportunity to develop their career choices and to apply their skills in real working conditions.
At LDE UT6 all learners take part in minimum of a week of Work Experience in Year 12. Learners will also have additional opportunities as part of their course to work with employers directly through employer led projects.
Other non-qualification activity to develop students’ character, broader skills, attitudes and confidence, and to support progression.
All learners at LDE UT6 are part of a tutor group and have a timetabled tutor lesson each week and a further timetabled Learning for Life lesson. These programmes are planned to provide learners with a range of knowledge and skills to support them to become active citizens and confident young adults ready to move on to the next stage in their lives. We also provide a full careers programme across the year which includes regular careers talks and access to a Careers Advisor on site. In addition to this we provide a range of enrichment activities - see our Clubs section for further information
