London Design & Engineering UTC has received a letter from Bridget Phillipson MP, Secretary of State for Education, recognising the exceptional outcomes achieved by disadvantaged learners and placing the college among the very best nationally.
The letter, addressed to Principal and CEO Geoffrey Fowler, highlights LDE UTC’s performance at the end of the 2024–25 academic year and acknowledges the collective effort required to achieve outcomes of this standard. It recognises what is possible when high expectations, ambition and sustained commitment come together in service of young people.
Reflecting on the recognition, our CEO and Principal, Geoffrey Fowler said:
“It is with immense pride and gratitude that I am sharing this letter. This is a fantastic acknowledgement of the ambition, commitment, and hard work across our college. Thank you to every member of staff for the part you played in supporting every single one of our learners.”

The Secretary of State’s letter also recognises LDE UTC’s role beyond its own community, encouraging the sharing of effective practice and continued collaboration across the system. A sustained focus on disadvantaged learners is identified as central to maintaining excellence and driving improvement at scale.
This recognition reflects the strength of LDE UTC’s employer-led approach, its culture of high expectations, and its commitment to ensuring that all learners, regardless of background, are supported to achieve strong outcomes and progress into meaningful next steps.
Improving outcomes for young people requires collaboration across education, industry and the wider system. If you would like to work with London Design & Engineering UTC to help build bridges, remove barriers and close the gaps facing young people nationally, we would welcome the opportunity to connect.
