Fostering Coding Confidence with Amazon Future Engineer

Our Year 10 and 11 students delved into the world of Python programming through a dynamic project supported by Amazon Future Engineer and hosted on the Amazon Turing Lab. This initiative aims to equip learners with practical Python skills, enhancing their programming capabilities.

The Amazon Turing Lab is an online platform designed for enjoyable and accessible Python skill development.

Through various creative exercises, learners honed their critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and coding confidence. They engaged in a range of courses, progressing from beginner to intermediate coding levels. Activities ranged from programming farmbots to setting up smart cities and crafting chatbots.

Uzma, our Computer Science teacher, shares ‘This Employer Led Project has helped year 10 and 11 computer science learners understand how to program using python. This covered programming fundamentals topic from the curriculum. With scaffolded challenges, learners worked at their own pace and were fully engaged. Despite there being a leadership board, which created a sense of competition, highlight of the ELP was to see how learners helped each other out and the level of collaboration that was taking place.’

This project equips our learners with digital literacy and problem-solving skills, preparing them for the ever-evolving tech landscape. We eagerly anticipate their continued growth in Python programming!
