Apprentices Visit London Building Expo

Our Civil Engineering Apprentices attended the London Building Expo, the UK's leading & largest construction show, to gain insight into a range of topics linking to their course from relevant and up to date industry innovators.

Our apprentices attended multiple talks handpicked by teacher Yetunde to support them with content from the course. They explored redefining sustainability in the UK, looking specifically at creating a circular future in the construction industry to reduce waste and increase efficency of material use. This talk explored end of life modelling and data to influence building design. It was linked to unit three on the level 4 civil engineering course. Apprentices also enjoyed talks on Retrofitting in a Digital Age (relevant to unit 6) and Optimising the use of BIM (unit 6).

As well as attending talks, our apprentices had the freedom to roam around the event and engage in meaningful conversations with leading companies. With over 450 exhibitors, there was plently of opportunity to gain a range of industry specific insight.

Reflecting on the day, Apprentice Civil Engineer for Strabag Christopher shared “The London Building Expo had an expansive range of accessible knowledge and insight. Hundreds of companies were there to share their expertise and experience which I felt offered beneficial insight into my apprenticeship course.”

"Learners were able to speak to leading professionals working on current projects in civil engineering. This educational visit really allowed the learners to visualise and understand the theory they have been learning relating to building technology, and modern digital methods that is revolutionising the industry and improving the quality of work in civil engineering. The day was very successful with learners taking away valuable experiences," Yetunde, teacher of Civil Engineering.
