Stepping into Shakespeare's Globe

Our year 10 English learners put on VR headsets and stepped into literary history as they explored Shakespeare’s Globe. Facilitated by Shakespeare’s Globe, this experience supported our learners' contextual understanding of the play Macbeth.

Through employer engagement, learners have already had the opportunity to explore screen adaptations of the play and theatre performances of the text. Through the use of VR, learners got to experience another innovative way to immerse themselves in the text they are studying which will better equip them in their approach to GCSE AQA English literature Paper 1, Section A.

The virtual tour made use of photos, videos and audio to educate learners on the historical context surrounding Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The tour explored many various locations, such as an actor’s-eye view from the stage, backstage in the tiring-house, the musicians’ gallery and standing in the Yard.

“Learners were able to immerse themselves into Shakespeare’s Globe building on their knowledge and understanding of theatre and staging. The VR experience stimulated their thinking enhancing their overall learning experience,” Aminul, teacher of English.
