London Design and Engineering UTC, working in partnership with Motorsport UK and Mission 44, hosted a CV writing and Interview techniques with leading industry partners for all of our Year 10 learners. Our learner newspaper society correspondent Srija wrote a compelling article about her experience of this amazing session:
I recently had the privilege of participating in a Race for Diversity CV Workshop hosted by Motorsport UK. This wasn't your typical career guidance session! We were paired with a fantastic panel of volunteers – industry professionals who generously donated their time to mentor us.
Right from the start, our volunteer Antley, who works at a Tech company, gave us some invaluable insights. He explained how recruiters scan CVs for specific information and shared tips on making ours stand out. He even took a look at my CV and offered personalised feedback on how to improve its impact.
We also enjoyed a workshop that covered some of the most common interview questions that trip people up, like "Tell me about yourself" and "Describe a time you overcame a challenge." We practiced our answers and received guidance from the volunteers.
Later, the volunteers opened the floor for a Q&A session. We had the chance to ask them anything about their careers, interview experiences, or CV writing in general. It was a fantastic opportunity to gain insights from seasoned professionals.
To top it all off, Evelkah from Motorsport UK selected a few learners with the most compelling CVs, and I was lucky enough to be among the five who received a water bottle as a prize.
This workshop was more than just a CV building exercise; it was a confidence booster and a peek into the exciting world of motorsport careers. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the volunteers who gave up their valuable time to mentor us. Their guidance and support were invaluable. Personally, I left the workshop feeling invigorated. Antley's personalised feedback transformed my CV, and the interview skills workshop equipped me with the tools to tackle any interview with confidence.
The Race for Diversity CV Workshop didn't just help me build a better CV; it helped me build the confidence to chase my dreams in the world of motorsport.
