Our Year 12 learners enjoyed a trip to a leading data centre event, a pivotal arena for discovering cutting-edge solutions and networking with industry titans. Among the highlights of this event was an engaging encounter with Professor Brian Cox, celebrated physicist, who shared his wisdom on education and technology.
Structured around a dynamic, self-guided tour, our learners were divided into four groups, each armed with a map and a mission to explore over 300 innovative solution providers and absorb wisdom from more than 200 hours of tech talks. Their exploration was enriched by a tailored quiz focusing on data and servers, encouraging them to engage deeply with the exhibitors, from startups to giants like LeGrand and KAO Data. This hands-on approach not only bolstered their understanding of data centres, including critical components like Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) systems, but also honed their networking skills through interactive challenges such as social media engagements with attending companies.
The event was a rare opportunity for our learners to hear directly from experts in the server industry, including luminaries like Peter Hanaford, Xavier Plowright, Nicola Hayes, and Laura Allwood. Their insights provided a glimpse into the evolving landscape of data storage and management, highlighting the importance of innovation and sustainability in shaping the future of technology.
Meeting Professor Brian Cox was an amazing highlight, offering our learners a chance to discuss their educational aspirations and receive guidance from one of the most influential voices in science and education today.
As the day concluded over shared pizzas, our learners reflected on their experiences, the knowledge gained, and the connections made. This event was not just about understanding the technicalities of data centres but about envisioning their place in the technology-driven future.
"We're incredibly proud of our learners for seizing this opportunity to dive into the tech world headfirst," shared Amit, teacher of Computer Science "Their enthusiasm and curiosity were evident in every interaction, proving that they're ready to lead and innovate in the digital age."
Year 12 Digital Media learner Sonny echoed his teacher’s sentiments, sharing "going to the Excel centre to learn about Data Centers was a fascinating experience and enjoyable time."
A special thanks to the event organisers and all the industry experts who contributed to making this day a transformative experience for our learners.
