We were incredibly privileged to welcome back Alumni Mohammed Majid Ali from British Airways to deliver a masterclass on Apprenticeship opportunities at British Airways to our year 11 learners.
Having achieved an apprenticeship in engineering at British Airways after completing his GCSE with us, Majid was the perfect person to come in and inspire our learners.
The session began with an interactive quiz exploring how well our learners know British Airways.
After this activity, our visitor began to share information about the requirements for achieving an apprenticeship at British Airways. As well as discussing the grade requirements, Majid stressed the importance of showing a strong interest and passion in engineering and aviation. He also spoke about being a strong communicator, having awareness of safety, being able to think critically and be adaptable. He also shed light on the course structure.
Our visitor also discussed the role of an engineer which involves keeping records of and performing maintenance, ensuring the aircraft is fit to fly, making repairs and making upgrades to the aircraft.
Having just recently completed his GCSE’s here at LDE, Majid offered our learners a unique and valuable perspective as he was able to relate to their experience of preparing for their exams. Thanks to this connection, learners were keen to ask questions and enjoyed an interactive masterclass.
