New Scientist live at ExCeL London

Our GCSE triple science learners visited the Excel centre to take part in Scientist Live’s dynamic event with keynote speakers and leading innovators in the science sector.

“We chose talks for our triple science learners to attend that will help them to revise key areas of the curriculum in an interesting way. But the purpose of the trip was more than just that – we wanted learners to explore the science topics that interested them and see how these curriculum topics are far reaching and impact so many different areas of life.”

Our learners enjoyed three talks from trailblazing scientists and, between talks, were free to roam around the excel centre having meaningful conversations with a range of STEM companies.

“Learners were given the freedom to engage in conversations that helped them to understand how science is innovating the world we live in. They experienced first hand new innovative science technology.”

Learners enjoyed three talks:
Am I normal: exploring the uniqueness of everyone’s brain and questioning the validity of the term normal. This talk related to Inheritance, variation and evolution on the biology curriculum.
Space exploration: giving a fascinating overview into the history of space travel through live demonstrations. This talk related to space on the physics curriculum.
How to think like a scientist: An inspiring story of Camilla Pang’s journey as a neurodivergent scientist who learned to see the value in failing and embracing the unknown on the way to success.

“The three talks we attended provided fascinating insights into not just scientific concepts, but also the jobs surrounding them - not just the one in the lab, but the one behind the computer; not just the one sitting in the rocket, but the hundreds standing beneath it. This made me much more optimistic for finding a role in science and STEM as a whole, opening my eyes to the millions of less well-known jobs that provide just the same satisfaction,” Sean.
