Nazia, who worked as the Head of UK Marketing at Wahed, virtually visited our learners to deliver a masterclass supporting them with AQA GCSE English Language Paper 2, Question 5. This question on the exam tasks learners to write a piece of non-fiction in response to a statement. It tests their ability to communicate clearly, effectively and imaginatively, whilst also adapting tone, style and register to suit to the forms, purposes and audiences of the piece of writing.
Having risen to the top of the marketing industry, Nazia shared that “In today’s interconnected world, a strong foundation in both marketing and English is essential for students. Marketing empowers you to communicate value, while English gives you the global language to do so effectively. Together, they are the keys to thriving in a dynamic, ever-evolving professional landscape."
Thanks to Nazia’s expertise in digital marketing, learners were able to deepen their understanding of the nonfiction writing she engages in through her role at Wahed.
Nazia showcased materials she created for her company, highlighting the persuasive features she employed. She then set learners a task in the mould of GCSE English Language paper two, question five: crafting a leaflet for a digital marketing company. Through rendering this GCSE question in a true to industry context, learners were able to better understand the importance of persuasive writing whilst also benefitting from writing a mock response which Nazia was then able to offer feedback on.
Thanks to Nazia for presenting literacy and language skills with practical industry application.
Reflecting on the session Aminul, teacher of English teacher, shared “Nazia has provided an invaluable revision opportunity for our year 12 resit group. By seeing this GCSE question rendered in the industry context of digital marketing, an ever-expanding industry, learners were motivated to craft their responses with care and consideration.”
