In an informative session, our year 11 computing learners had the privilege of hosting Peter, an esteemed alumnus, who shared insights into his career journey and current apprenticeship at Sky in Development Operations.
Sky, a prominent media and entertainment company, serves as a platform that connects 23 million customers to a wide array of apps, entertainment, sports, news, and arts.
Peter provided valuable information about the role of a Development Operation Manager, discussing its key responsibilities and functions. He also shared his experiences navigating the interview process and the competitive stages involved in securing his apprenticeship.
During the session, Peter explored the intricacies of maintaining a work-study balance and discussed the structure of his apprenticeship program. He highlighted the skills and knowledge acquired during his time at LDE and how they are now relevant in his current career path.
The Q&A segment proved to be particularly insightful, as learners actively engaged with Peter, seeking advice on topics such as salary expectations, the decision to pursue an industry apprenticeship versus a university education, the benefits of remote work, and working with code. Peter's visit truly resonated with the learners, who found him to be a relatable and inspiring role model.
