We were visited by sixty children from St. Augustine's primary school to learn about biodiversity through our Lego innovation programme at LDE.
LEGO is used in countless to bring the curriculum to life such as recall and revision activities, breaking down complicated concepts and visually demonstrating essay structure. The Lego primary lab trains learners to design, develop and teach workshops focused on tackling global issues such as plastic pollution and deforestation.
This session was designed and delivered by the year 12 and year 13 Lego team to support St. Augustine Primary School in becoming an eco-school. They had previously attended a workshop with us on creating a habitable environment on Mars and they were so excited they returned to the college for more!
To that end, after Shafina's sharing of our programme with the school's head, they created a dedicated area on their website just on using Lego in learning.
The highlight of the session was the sheer brilliance in the delivery of the workshop by our year 13 team, namely Jericho and Sohail. They seamlessly led the entire session and approached the whole workshop with their own, unique styles and with such great confidence. They had the year 5's and their teachers fully engaged and in total awe of their passion, ability and professionalism.
The teachers reported that they have "never seen anything like this" and were praising the entire Lego team throughout the session.
It takes the team weeks of organising and preparing for these events and the time and dedication has paid off as they have been delivering exceptional workshops!
Here is to more collaborative work and having LDE lead the way in creative education.
