Bouygues visit for International Women's Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day, female employers at Bouygues visited our learners for an inspiring session on Women in Construction.

Originally a construction company, Bouygues Group now operate in over 80 countries with a diverse range of services in the sectors of property development, energy and services, transport infrastructure, telecoms and media.

The aim of session was to showcase ‘how the vibrant, diverse and exhilarating Construction and Engineering industry can help learners achieve their ambitions.’ Our visitors began with an interactive quiz with questions exploring engineering, construction and our learners' vocational aspirations.

Learners discussed what different job roles are needed to build a school. These roles ranged from Steelworkers and Bricklayers to Project Managers and Site Engineers. After discussing all the different possible roles, our visitors revealed that there are in fact over 800 different types of jobs in construction.

The Bouygues group shared information about which school subjects relate to Construction and Engineering and what careers they could lead to. During this session, our visitors also explored different prominent women in construction industry such as Roma Agrawal- a chartered structural engineer who has worked on several major engineering projects including the Shard.

Representation is vital- having leading female engineers and professionals visit and inspire our learners showed them the vocational pathways available once they move into employment, apprenticeship or higher education.

‘A great presentation from Bouygues. Who knew how many different roles there were in the construction industry – from healthcare to bricklaying.  Hopefully we have inspired the next generation of female workers in the construction industry!’  Vice Principal, Gloria.
